Critical security vulnerability on iOS puts crypto users at risk

Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS, contains a critical security vulnerability that puts its users‘ cryptocurrencies at risk if they have wallet software installed on their device – this was announced over the weekend by security researcher 23pds from SlowMist via X.

The security researcher describes the vulnerability on X.

iOS versions prior to 26.7 are affected. It remains unclear exactly which versions are affected. 23pds suspects the vulnerability exists in iOS versions 13 through 26.5. Version 26.6 is also currently under suspicion.

The security expert therefore recommends that all iOS users update to version 26.7 or higher. This is the only way to reliably fix the bug.

Because the security vulnerability allows unauthorized access to the devices of potential victims, the threat is enormous. Users would only need to access a website via the Safari browser.

Hackers can then gain access to the device and read the private keys of the crypto wallet. If cybercriminals obtain this information, they have complete control over the stored cryptocurrencies.

Owners of iPhones and iPads must therefore exercise increased caution when navigating the internet. Even visiting the wrong website can be disastrous for the user.

Crypto company Ondo was set to change owners after the death of founder Allman.

Crypto company Ondo Finance was reportedly set to be sold to a new owner following the death of its founder , Nathan Allman, on May 25, 2026, according to a report by CoinDesk. The report cites statements from three insiders.

In response to a direct inquiry from CoinDesk regarding the alleged sale plans, a spokesperson for Ondo stated that the rumors were “completely false”.

Allman’s unexpected death in May attracted considerable attention. Allman founded Ondo Finance in 2021. It is a financial platform that deals with the tokenization of real-world assets.

The founder was also the director and the most powerful shareholder of the company. Because he died without a will, the company’s future has been uncertain since May.

It is unclear who wanted to sell Ondo Finance. However, the person has made offers to several potential buyers.

A current legal dispute is known to exist between Allman’s parents, who, as heirs, gained control of the estate, and the current Ondo CEO, Ian De Bode.

De Bode previously served as the company’s CFO. It is unclear whether he is behind the attempted sale. At the same time, it remains unclear which other person could potentially transfer the company to a buyer.

Allman’s parents, Lawrence and Kathleen, claim control of the company’s management. Until the legal dispute is resolved, De Bode will only have reduced powers as managing director. A sale is out of the question until then.

Kathleen Allman is said to have already removed De Bode through a board election, to which De Bode did not submit.

For Ondo Finance, the dispute over future decision-making power is significant. Without a clear management concept, the project would not be viable. Parts of the management are determined by the Ondo DAO.

Ondo’s eponymous governance and utility token has a market capitalization of $2.63 billion, ranking it 35th among all cryptocurrencies.

Thanks to blockchain, hackers can operate even more undisturbed.

Thanks to the use of blockchain technology, cybercriminals can operate with increasing ease – this is the conclusion reached by blockchain analysts at Chainalysis. The security experts have observed the growing use of blockchain technology by hackers since 2023.

In 2023, private hackers devised a new technique – Chainalysis calls it Blockchain Dead Drops ( BDD for short ). Malicious program code is stored on blockchains and then deliberately transmitted to victims.

What’s special about it: The robustness and decentralization of the blockchain prevents defensive measures that would be much easier without blockchain – such as shutting down servers.

State-sponsored hackers are now particularly prominent in their use of BDD. Chainalysis has identified Iranian and North Korean groups as being especially active in this regard. Together, they are said to be responsible for 51 percent of all BDD usage.

Blockchain dead drops: These are now primarily used by state-sponsored hackers.

Hackers store malicious instructions in smart contracts or use functions like Bitcoin’s OP_Return, which allows text to be stored on the blockchain.

The different groups employ varying strategies. North Korean hackers distribute their code via various smart contract platforms such as Aptos, Tron, and BSC. Iran, on the other hand, relies exclusively on Bitcoin.

Ironically, North Korea is said to have already used the technique to attack blockchain developers and thus gain access to their cryptocurrencies.

Is ECB President Lagarde preventing Binance from obtaining a MiCA license?

According to the Wall Street Journal, insiders have reported a scandalous incident in the European Union. None other than ECB President Christine Lagarde is said to have personally intervened to prevent Binance from obtaining a MiCA license .

Binance has been the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume since 2018. The company grew rapidly due to its large offering and low fees.

Furthermore, Binance, under the leadership of its founder Changpeng Zhao, gained a positive reputation in the crypto scene. This was due to the company’s strategy, which could be described as laissez-faire.

Over the years, Binance has become increasingly restrictive. However, its old reputation may have been its downfall in the EU. Without a MiCA license, the company is no longer permitted to serve customers residing in the European Union.

Binance had applied for a license early on. As recently as June, negotiations with the Greek regulatory authority HCMC were considered almost concluded, but then Lagarde intervened.

The French politician reportedly called Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and asked him not to grant Binance a license. MiCA has been fully in effect since July, thus excluding Binance from the EU market.

The supervisory authorities of individual EU member states are supposed to operate independently. However, the EU wants to change this. A currently debated “ Market Integration and Market Surveillance Package” aims to transfer the powers of national authorities to the European Securities and Markets Authority ( ESMA ).

Bitcoin price reaches peak at $87,000

Bitcoin’s price reached the peak of its recent rally just above $87,000 . CoinMarketCap lists a regional high of $87,154 on Wednesday. Since then, the cryptocurrency has corrected and, at the time of writing, is trading below $84,000. BTC is currently quoted at exactly $83,939.

The largest cryptocurrency is still up 3.85 percent this week. A week ago, it was trading at around 80,000 US dollars.

According to James Butterfill of CoinShares, a reassessment of US fiscal policy is the reason behind the price gains, which surprised many experts.

The DeFi trend in the crypto market continues.

A DeFi trend that was already evident last week continues this week. Ethena (ENA) leads the trend with price gains of 55 percent. It is a stablecoin protocol . ENA is currently trading at $0.25.

In second place is Quant (QNT) with a 50 percent price gain. QNT reached a market capitalization of US$95.18. Quant focuses on interoperability between different blockchains.

Sei (SEI) takes third place. The smart contract platform rose by 42 percent and is trading at US$0.06.
